Just saw 15 or 20 people go by on what looked like short skis on wheels and ski poles.  They must push themselves on fairly level ground as I can't visualize them going up any very steep hill.  I did notice a green van following a ways back with some writing on it, but didn't catch it in time to read what it said.

Each and every one of them was slim & trim.  Not a chunky one in the group.  I have seen individuals or couples go by before, but never a large group like this one.

Is this some new sport or just some new exercise to get ready for ski season??  Anybody know??

I didn't see this group, but I've seen similar groups a couple of years ago, in southern Vermont. We were heading from Ludlow to Weston, and came across a group doing the same thing. I assume that they were part of a cross country ski team, practicing for the upcoming ski season. Looking at the recent edition of Vermont Sports, there are a number of cross country ski races scheduled this coming winter, both in Vermont as well as in Quebec.

Maybe it was the US National Biathalon Team? I believe they train in Jericho.

Now Henry why are people acting like seeing people on wheels pushing with ski poles is something new.  its pretty normal up on fletcher rd this time of year and its a site that I have seen since moving to Vermont in 1980.

these people have no reguard for oncoming traffic ,they think they own the road, the van they where using was from UVM. I understand they need room to push off and such but why fletcher /fairfax there has to be a road less traveled that is paved .like huntville

I believe we all own the road....including them. We should be praising their hard work, not of complaining about the extra 30 seconds it added to our drive.  Would you rather have them hanging around smoking like the idiots down by the covered bridge?

Mystery solved as to who the group of Roller Skiers was.  I am still pretty small town and knew that this had to be some team, as I have seen two or three Roller Skiers go up and down the road, but never this many.  Ahhhhhhhhh Yes!!!  Maybe some future Olympic Ski Champion from the UVM Ski Team just Roller Skied by my house.

Thanks to the person who clarified who the group was and the caution they took on The Fletcher Road.  They appeared to all be on the side of the road as cars did pass in front of my house.

"Hi Henry,
Just wanted to let you know that I saw the group of people training on skis on wheels on the Fletcher Road yesterday.    Two green vans were stopped at the Binghamville corners keeping an eye on the traffic.  The vans were from the University of Vermont Athletics Department.  Probably one of the ski teams were practicing.  From what I saw, they kept to the side of the road the best that they could and they had the van drivers watching out for them and oncoming traffic."
