Jimmy Minor stopped by yesterday to show me his new Enhanced Drivers License.  Looks pretty much like a regular photo license, however, they ask you to keep it in a special sleeve so it can only be read when there is a  need to:

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) Security
The RFID tag embedded in your card does not contain any personal identifying information. The RFID does not have a power source and cannot transmit data. An RFID reader at the border crossing station sends radio waves to the tag in your card and collects the reference number so it can be matched to our records to verify the information printed on the front of your card. To prevent the reading of the RFID in your license keep it in the security sleeve provided.

Also,  Your EDL/ID will be accepted for entry into the USA from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean at any land or sea port of entry.  (Note, it says getting back in - My concern is that if I went up to Canada to visit my Aunt, they might not let me back in the country).

Jim went to Montpelier to get his Enhanced License and was in the Elite Company of about 9 others.  According to this morning's Burlington Free Press, the only place you will be able to get the Enhanced License is in Montpelier.

Many thanks to Jim for stopping by and enlightening me on this new Enhanced License Feature.  I have scanned the letter he received below and blocked out his personal information on it, so you should be able to read the other things that go with the Enhanced License:

Although the Free Press didn't mention Jimmy in their article on Enhanced Licenses, they did have an article there this morning that you can read if you wish by clicking on the following link:
