Fairfax Fire Department Responded To House Fire On Buck Hollow Road

Georgia was there, but believe they have been released and apparently it would appear that the fire is out.

Correct.  We did have structure fire last evening on Buckhollow Road.  We arrived quickly and were able to get a crew into the attic to extinguish the fire with minimal damage.  The homeowners were able to return to living status in their home around 10:30pm.  Georgia was called in for mutual aid but thankfully we did not need to employ their services. 

A chilly -15 this morning brought two chimney fires simultaneously one on Nichols Rd. the other on Michelle Rd.  Due to multiple calls at the same time resources were requested from Georgia for the Nichols Rd. fire and Westford for the Michelle Rd. fire.  Both incidents were minor in nature with no measureable damage to either property. 

Thank you to all our mutual aid departments for assisting us the last 12hours and enduring the sub zero temperatures.

Thanks for the official word Justin.  I hesitate at times to put up where the fire was or is located unless I actually get in my car and drive there.  Last night was not a night for me to venture out.  When I heard the tones again this morning, checked my thermometer and saw it was 18 degrees below zero, my heart went out to you guys.  What a tremendously dedicated group of people.  The thought crossed my mind - "What drives men & women to volunteer to go out in all kinds of weather, interrupting whatever they are doing, or planned on doing, to help others?"

I guess, bottom line, the answer is, "You are a very special group of individuals."

By the way Justin, send me a note if by putting up the notes on where the fires are should not be done by me - Hopefully everybody knows it is unofficial.  Back in the old CB Radio Days, we didn't do that as it used to cause problems for the fire department(s) with traffic blocking the way for emergency vehicles as people would be driving in their cars and hear it over their CB Radio and go to the scene.

I do have to say though, that the word gets around pretty fast.  My daughter is down in Connecticut and got the word on Face Book last night, probably faster than I put it out on my forum.

 I for one have NO PROBLEM with what you do Henry. As someone that works out of town. I check your site to see if I have to go to a call on the way home. traffic has not for the most part been a issue. We will let you know if we need you to change.

Why do we do it?
Why do we go out in all types of weather?

Because someone is in trouble. Because it might be an accident, or a CO detector going off, or someone's house is burning. Someone is in trouble and we want to help them out.
It's hard to explain.
Maybe, subconsciously, it's some kind of hero complex, I don't know.
But for some people, me included, the pager goes off, the adrenalin rushes, and you want to help. The sad things that happen, do get to you, but you have to realize, that's part of the job.

Like I said, it's hard to explain. We just do it.

And without these volunteers what would our community do?  I would like to commend each and every one of you for volunteering your time and services.

We also need to remember that the families of these "heroes" make a large sacrifice as well.  Their spouses are the ones holding down the fort on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day when their loved ones are fighting fires.  They're the ones trying to explain to their crying children why Mommy or Daddy can't play with them or kiss them good night because they have a "call".

This is just another example that the Fairfax Fire and Rescue Volunteers are wonderful. They do what they do and we can do what we can do. That is why I organized the Art in Bloom Festival. It may not be a lot but if it buys new tires for the truck or a new hose, I am happy. We can all volunteer and do our part in different ways. I would not be opposed to cooking if I knew when and where the fires were. Is someone in charge of this? My total appreciation, Shelly
