MARY J. (STANNARD) BERGAN

SOUTH BURLINGTON - Mary J. Bergan, 66, a longtime resident of South Burlington died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009. Mary was born in Burlington on Nov. 1, 1942, the daughter of Harold and Alice (McKenzie) Stannard, and graduated from Rice Memorial High School in 1960. She was married in St. John Vianney Catholic Church in South Burlington on July 13, 1963, to James L. Bergan. Mary enjoyed her summers at the family camp in North Hero with her husband Jim and family, their occasional trips to Seattle, Wash., and Montana to visit with family, and her time with the seniors, her friends in South Burlington at Jazzercise. Mary is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jim Bergan; and their children, Kim Blow and her husband Robert of Winooski, Randie Fontaine and her husband Tom of Fairfax, and their twins, Jim Bergan and his wife Andrea, and Mary Martha Bergan of Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren, R. J., Jessica, Josh, and Kristen Blow, Raymond and Bryce Fontaine, and Dylan and Luka Bergan; and longtime friend Vera Graham. She was predeceased by her brother Ronald Stannard; and her sister Jackie Eggleston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at 10 a.m., in St. Stephen Catholic Church in Winooski. Interment will follow in Resurrection Park in South Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 121 Connor Way, Williston, VT 04495, or to the Visiting Nurse Association, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446. Visiting hours will be on Monday, Feb. 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski.
