Alice was born March 3, 1911 in Clarenceville, Quebec the daughter of the late Oscar and Rosa Tremblay St. Jean. On August 15,1940 she married Henry J. Dubois in the Chapel of the Canadian Martyrs in Venice, P.Q. Henry predeceased her on December 20,1970. They had moved to Charlotte in 1940 and in the following year moved to Shelburne where she resided until 1972 when she moved to live on South Street in Essex. A very active lady who loved to stay busy, Alice worked for two years as a guide at the Shelburne Museum and enjoyed staying active in town affairs serving as Ballot Clerk in Shelburne for several years. A Member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Shelburne, Alice was involved with the St. Catherine Society for several years, serving as president for two years. After moving to Essex she became a member of St. Lawrence Parish on West Street. She worked at Whitcomb Woods residence, a job that she loved and assisted with the preparation and delivery of the meals to the residents, where she was affectionately known as the "Cookie Lady". When her health began to change she determined that it would be easier to reside at Whitcomb Woods. She more recently came to live at Green Mountain where she came to enjoy all the activities that were offered to the residents. She will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her son, Richard Dubois and his wife Janet of Shelburne and her daughters, Alice LaVallee and her husband, Paul of Ferrisburgh and Alison Babcock and her husband, Fred of Austin, TX. Mims leaves her grandchildren, Rick Dubois, Mike and Rose Dubois, Karen and James Minor, Lori Dubois, Leslie and Hugh Lewis Jr. and Gary LaVallee. Her great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Dubois, Matthew Lewis, Elizabeth Minor, Victoria Minor, Ryan Dubois, James Minor II, Tyler Lewis and Alexandria Minor. Her sisters, Rolande Finnegan of Montreal, P.Q. and Theresa Lamoureaux of St. Petersburg, FL.
Besides her husband Henry, she was predeceased by her son, Charles Dubois, grandson, Caleb Lewis, brother, Oscar St. Jean Jr., sisters, Yvonne Lamothe Rheaume, Sr. Simone St. Jean and Beatrice St. Jean and her sister in law, Simone Sanson St. Jean. The family wishes to thank the staff at Green Mountain Nursing Home for the kind and compassionate care extended to Alice during the time that she spent with them.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 9, 2009 at 11 am in St. Lawrence Catholic Church on West Street in Essex Junction with Fr. Charles Ranges, celebrant and homilist. Burial will take place in the Shelburne Village Cemetery in the spring. Memorial Contributions may be made the Green Mountain Nursing Home, Activity Fund in care of Green Mountain Nursing Home, 1102 Ethan Alien Avenue, Colchester, VT 05446.
