Vt. State police warn of GPS directions
The Vermont State Police is warning motorists to take care when following directions from global positioning systems after two men ended up stuck on a snowmobile trail.

Police say that early Saturday morning 35-year-old Carlos Martins of East Providence, R.I., and 46-year-old Joseph Santos of Seekonk, Mass., — traveling in separate vehicles — tried to use a GPS to reach a vacation home in Windham.

The GPS directions onto a series of remote back roads where both vehicles became stuck on a snowmobile trail.

The two then called police.

Members of the Townshend Fire Department transported the men and their vehicles to the main road.

Police say a GPS may offer a short route to a destination, but they can lead to areas not maintained for winter travel.
