Wilson E. “Bernard” Fisher

St. Albans - Mr. Wilson E. “Bernard” Fisher, age 83, died Tuesday April 7, 2009, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Hospital, after a brief illness.  He was born in St. Albans, July 29, 1925, son of the late Ernest and Delia (Gibeault) Fisher.  He served his country during  WW II in the U.S. Navy, serving in Calcuta, Shanghi, and Hong Kong, China.  Upon returning from the service, he worked for the Lamoille Valley Railroad and the Central Vermont Railway for 34 years as a car inspector.  Bernard took pride in caring for the Governor’s Train which is now at the Shelburne Museum.  He also operated Fisher’s Country Store in Fairfax for 6 years.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #1, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #758.  Bernard enjoyed deer, moose and caribou hunting, ice fishing, woodworking, gardening, and carpentry.  He will be remembered for telling a great tale, whether it was true or not, was only known to Bernard.

October 29, 1953, he married Margaret Breault.  Mrs. Fisher predeceased him January 9, 2008. 

He is survived by his three daughters Suzanne MaComber of Hinesburg, Debrorah Bousquet and her husband Joseph of Essex, and Patricia Marquette and her husband Robert of St. Albans, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a sister Evelyn Thompson of Burlington.  Besides his wife Margaret, and his parents, Bernard was predeceased by his step-mother Edith (Nichols) Fisher, a son David, and a brother and sister-in-law and Edward and Ramona Fisher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 13, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Church.  Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Monday morning.  Interment will follow in the Fisher family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Memorial may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT. 05478.  An online condolence book and photo album has been established for the family at the funeral home website: www.bnlfh.com.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.
