ALICE (BEVINS) MCKNIGHT PATTERSON PASSES AWAY

ALICE MERLYN PATTERSON ST. ALBANS — On Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, Alice M. Patterson, age 83, gracefully passed from this world into the hands of our Lord. She was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Burlington, daughter of the late Ira L. and Eliza (Reynolds) Bevins. She graduated from BFA-Fairfax and attended classes to become a nurse's aide. Alice “did it all,“ dedicating her life to her family and work. She was predeceased by her former husband and father of their children, Ellis L. McKnight whom she wed on Nov.10, 1941. Alice was also predeceased by her second husband, Harlan Patterson, whom she married in Alburg on Dec. 6, 1985. She fulfilled her early days as a nurse for Kerbs, now known as Northwest Medical Center, and later ran Grey Gables Community Care in Richford. Alice worked from dusk till dawn, never resting till all was cared for. When her girls were young every Wednesday was dedicated to washing and ironing the doll clothes, many of which she had sewn herself. She enjoyed sewing immensely and made everything from baby clothes and pajamas to quilts. Alice loved renovating and redecorating all of the houses she owned, especially enjoying the art of wallpapering. Alice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Morse and Ken White of Bakersfield, Cindy Longe and husband Tim of Enosburg; stepdaughter Jenene Edwards and husband Gale of Jeffersonville; brother Lloyd Bevins and wife Gyneth of St. Albans; two sisters, Carlene Sweet and husband Robert of Fairfax, and Ruth O'Boyle of St. Albans; seven grandchildren, Cara Morse and partner Kevin Morrow, Crystal Morse and wife Melissa Wedin, Jennifer Morse and partner Seth Morgan, Leah Morse, Holly Tessier and husband Jeremy, Maria Rosenthal and husband Paul, and Tim Longe Jr.; two stepgrandchildren, Craig Edwards and wife Debbie, Shawna Hanley and husband Eric; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Humphrey, Riley Humphrey, Cassie Morrow and Clayton Tessier; six greatstep-grandchildren; one great-great stepgrandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Gary, a daughter, Jill; three brothers, Rollo Bevins, Ira Bevins Jr., Bernard Bevins; two sisters, Glenna Smith and Earlene Burns. Visiting hours will be held Friday, Sept. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the A.W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main St. Fairfax. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11a.m. in the United Church of Fairfax with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Fairfax Plains Cemetery.
