Pictures of the Day May 6, 2009

Bluebirds, I think. I hope.

BLUEBIRDS
I noticed these two birds sitting on a sign on the rec path Monday, but didn't get a good clear picture of them. Tuesday they were still there. The camera was set at 7 megapixels, and the sun was at my back, so I was able to get a few clear shots of them. Tame birds, I was able to get within 8 feet of them as they were sitting on the sign.
Beautiful birds. Pure white chest with shiny blue wings and head.

Checked in on the baby robin. It's growing feathers!

I should have titled this "Blue Birds". A couple of people e-mailed me to say they are swallows, not bluebirds.
I checked the Audubon book, and they are tree swallows.
I should have done the research first. Oops.
Thanks for letting me know.

Reminds me of the classic episode of "Taxi".
"Those aren't blueberries, Jim, they're blue berries. They're poisonous."
"Blueberries are poisonous?"
"No, Jim. Blueberries aren't poisonous, but blue berries are."

They may not be bluebirds, but they are blue birds.

Well Mike, you are about as knowledgeable of birds as I am.  Maryann has a book she uses with pictures, otherwise those GoldFinches I see outside my front window might be called Wild Canaries.  I read your blog earlier this morning and never questioned it as, as you say, they are Blue Birds.
