One of our local Cell Phone Experts, Ron Mapes sent me the following information:

Check out this news video. Keep your cell phone close. Interesting thing is that there would be a call detail record will be created on the mobile switch. Not totally undetectable.

I watched the video on the youtube link below and since I am not very savvy on this stuff sent Ron back a note and asked him if this really could happen.  Ron said:

Good Morning Henry,
It seems that along the supply chain somewhere the spy ware gets loaded on the phone. Or if you happen to let someone use your phone they can load the spy ware. In the old days a scanner or network analyzer could be used when the signal was analog. Now that the signal is digital those boxes cannot be used.  Interesting stuff.  Ron

This is exactly why I wear my tin foil hat when I am on or near my Blackberry.
Tin foil blocks all of that spy stuff.
I read it it on the internet so it MUST be true.

Henry,
Thanks for bestowing the title of expert. Not sure if you saw this one. Caused a big stir in the UK. Seems like some folks planted cell phones in credit card readers before they are installed at shops. I heard the story on the BBC late last year. 1001 uses of the cell phone.

Mike,
Foil can act like a reflector to promote better signal. Not a bad idea depending on your location.

Enjoy,
Ron
