Luna Moth Apparently Not Endangered Here In Fairfax

Mike Cain had a photo the other day on his blog and I took a photo of one on my kitchen window a few minutes ago:

Once again Henry , thanks for the education! How sad to only live for one week and the only purpose is to reproduce! And then there are houseflies whose only real  purpose is to annoy people and spread disease. It's thought that flies are harmless, but I read somewhere that flies are the most dangerous animal because if their animal-waste habits, they transmit more disease than any other similar vector.

Saw one Last Friday was it?  Freaked me out a bit as it was night time and we had our front door open with just the glass storm door to keep out the bugs.  It caught my eye 'cause i thought i saw a bird fly past and thought after a minute "wait, birds don't come out at night no matter what the feast around the lights."  We counted ourselves lucky as Luna Moths are rare to see - i guess just not around these parts.

It is still on the kitchen window (Outside) and I just measured it as it clings to the screen there.  It is 4 inches wide and 4 inches long.

I have had moose and bears in my yard many times. but THAT thing freaks me out!

I wonder if you cut off it"s wings and grilled them, what would they taste like? Chicken?

At 10 p.m. he had moved down to the bottom of the kitchen window and at 11 p.m. he was gone - Probably off for a little rendevous.  Things to do and only a week to do it in.
