Fairfax used to have one of the largest chicken farms around - It was the dream and livelyhood of Reggie & Joyce Barkyoumb and known as Hillcrest Poultry. Over the years it has evolved into Hillcrest Foods and now much of that business has moved to New York State. Reggie & Joyce built a new house a number of years ago just North of Nan's Mobil and later developed it into the housing development on Hillcrest Road. You would be hard pressed to find a chicken there though. Reggie & Joyce both love to garden, but I must remember to ask them the next time I see them, why they don't have a few chickens also for Old Times Sake.
I know David Shea has chickens and Swanson's Nursery also has chickens roaming around the Nursery. The Langelier Family only has chickens for a short time that they raise for eating.
I remember that I could always tell when our hens were laying well back on the farm as mother's deserts would change to those that used a lot of eggs. Back in those days on the farm, we Catholics could not eat meat on Friday and any fish we had usually came in a can, so Friday's were usually Egg Days.
