Fairfax not doing 4th of July & will not allow permits to residents!

So the Town of Fairfax is not doing any 4th of July celebration & then they will not allow permits for residents to do fireworks.

Maybe this info should be posted on the town website where people can be notified about it.

Trust me.
That will not stop people from setting off fireworks.
Believe me.
Last year, the Fairfax Fireworks were held on the 5th.
The night of the 4th sounded like London during the Blitz.
There will be fireworks on the 4th. Just hang out in the village, preferably from a high elevation.

Cat, you just don't let things go, do you?  What exactly have you done, prior to your rant last week, to aid in bringing fireworks to Fairfax for the Fourth?  Things such as fireworks, community celebrations, etc. take a considerable amount of planning and resources to accomplish- something that most people are short on.  Especially this year.  Since you feel so passionately about the subject, I suggest that you work on it for next year.

Furthermore, it's not just Fairfax- most towns in Vermont don't allow individuals to set off fireworks!

We just recently moved here & as for letting it go we were & were going to do some ourselves like many others in this town do. Last year we contributed a lot when they had the donation containers around town.

What I posted last week was far from a rant. Maybe I stepped on a few toes. Oh well.

Last week I was just asking why & stated that my family was disappointed. I also asked why another collection at the stores was not done like last year. You all call that ranting but from my 9 yrs of being a member of several message boards that would be called asking questions or maybe even debating.

I am glad to see you on Henry's Web site!  I encourage you to continue to ask question or rant.  I guess it is all a matter of perspective what you call it?  People such as yourselves are full of passion and when given the proper encouragement can and will make things happen.

I like Cats and I like Dogs. Let's just relax a bit. We all like fireworks and this year we will NOT have them for whatever reasons. Deal with it and start making a difference for next year. All the negative will not change the outcome in the next couple of weeks.  Shelly

Indeed, negativity will only serve to ensure Cat does nothing more to help make thigns happen.  I agree with Mr Shea - sharing opinions help widen our perspectives.  I don't think you stepped on any toes persay Cat, i think it was rather an interpreted inference that nothing was done to make it happen, and/or our 'small town' didn't feel it important enough to make a priority.  I encourage you to continue to pursue your goals with fireworks as well.

I had to go back and read Cat's other thread to see the rant. I found the thread, but couldn't find the rant. Unless Webster's has changed the definition since I was last in school. To me it looked like she asked a couple of questions and offered a suggestion.

Myself, I am a bit upset at not being able to obtain a fireworks permit. People are going to set off fireworks anyway, as it was already mentioned earlier in this thread, and all this does is to ensure that every one of those people is breaking the law and risking a $100 fine and up to 30 days in jail. A few years ago when personal fireworks were illegal in the state of Vermont, that was understandable. There were no permits. But the laws have changed now, fireworks are no longer illegal. The state has provided an avenue for law abiding citizens to use fireworks. Most towns have a permitting process for this now. We even have at least 2 stores in the state that sell fireworks. To not allow permits to residents now is just forcing those that would still like to celebrate July 4th to become criminals. I have seen fireworks launched from the property of some very prominent residents in this town. To think that every one of them could have to spend 30 days in jail is frightening.

Please do not interpret any of the above as a rant. It was meant to be informative, not ranting.

That's right - fireworks AREN'T ILLEGAL ANYMORE.  SO then, I wonder what the reason they're denying residents permits?  At first glance doesn't that seem illegal in itself - certain towns denying their residents a right sanctioned by the state?

Perhaps the verbiage of the permit process allows for different interpretations and enactments?

Are their Firework Haters our there?  really?  Really?
