OBITUARY: Merlin Foster Grant
DATELINE: Swanton, Vermont
Merlin Foster Grant, age 70 years, died suddenly early Saturday morning, July 4, 2009, at his Olive Street residence.
Born in Alburgh, Vermont on, March 4, 1939, he was the son of the late Edward and Ethel (Peryea), Grant. He attended Alburgh schools and on January 18, 1969, he married the former Charlene King who survives him. (Charlene is the daughter of Tom & Ida (Cross) King)
At the age of twenty-one, Merlin enlisted in the United States Air Force and faithfully served his country for eight years. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam Era. Following his honorable discharge from military service Merlin became associated with IBM of Essex Junction until his health forced him to retire in 1991 after twenty-four years. In his earlier years he loved to fish and hunt.
In addition to his wife Charlene of forty years, Merlin leaves, five brothers, Norman and his wife Mae of Florida; Richard and his wife Mary of Winooski, Dalton and his wife Nancy of Milton, Walter and his wife Betty of Massachusetts, and Bobby and his wife Susie also of Massachusetts; two sisters, Madeline Goyette and husband Abe of Crown Point, New York, and June Perrault of Massachusetts as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Merlin was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Clifton, Jimmy and Willis.
At Merlin’s request funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at the family lot in the Sanderson Corners Cemetery in Fairfax. Gifts in Merlin’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate, 77 Hegeman Avenue, Colchester 05446.
