Citizens for Fairfax Community, Inc. (CFC)
6:30 PM, 7/20/09 Meeting* Minutes:

* Note that because we did not have a quorum of the Trustees in attendance, this was not an official meeting of the Board.

HEADLINES:
▪   Although attendance at this mid-summer meeting was predictably sparse and no landmark points were passed in the past month, steady progress by individuals and subcommittees was reported in several areas; most notably:
o   A good meeting with the board of the United Church of Fairfax to explain our interest in possibly purchasing the Baptist building as a site for the community center
o   Gathering information and cost estimates for our hypothetical examples for construction of a community center
▪   Nominations are needed, in the next four weeks, for new CFC Trustees. We need everyone to think about people who might be willing to help with our work; talk to them about CFC and find out it they are interested, and pass their names along to Liz, Katrina or Mark.

In attendance: Katrina Antonovich, Elizabeth Griffin,* Ann Lemieux, Connie Hunziker, Mark Hunziker*
(* indicates Board-members)

Reports, discussion, and actions on agenda items:
▪   Barb, Mark and Peggy met with the United Church of Fairfax’s Board to explain our interest in the possibility of a future purchase of the Baptist building as a site for the community center. The members of the Board seemed receptive to the idea, in light of the maintenance and repair challenges they are facing with the building.
▪   Ann and Mark have been gathering information and cost estimates for our hypothetical examples for construction of a community center: (1) building a new structure on undeveloped land and (2) refurbishing the Baptist building. Most of our focus has been on the refurbishing scenario; and estimates are in the works on all aspects of such a project.
▪   We are still waiting for the IRS to process and approve our 501(c)3 application.
▪   As president of the Fairfax Business and Professionals Association, Ann reported that her proposal for the dissolution of the association will be voted on at an upcoming membership meeting. The proposal is that after funding some projects, any remaining FBPA funds will be donated to the CFC.
▪   Mark has collected most of the information that appears to be needed for writing up a business plan; but will not pull it together into a single document until such a document is needed for a specific purpose such as applying for a grant.
▪   Mary has received “resume” information from all but one Board member.
▪   Everyone has been toying with ideas for a CFC logo; but no proposals have been made at this point.
▪   Katrina and Liz will be our nominating committee for Trustees for election at our annual membership meeting (probably in October). As far as we know, the two current Trustees whose terms are up for renewal this year, Pam Jumper and Liz Griffin, are willing to serve again. But our Bylaws allow us to have up to four additional Trustees (for a total of twelve); and we would really like to add a few more energetic people to our core group. Our Board currently includes no born-and-raised Fairfax residents, and it would be great if we could change that. We need everyone to think about people who might be willing to help with our work; talk to them about CFC and find out it they are interested, and pass their names along to either Liz, Katrina or Mark sometime in the next four weeks.

Next Meeting: Monday, August 17, 6:30 pm at the Hunzikers’ home

Agenda in brief:
▪   Nominations for Trustee positions and setting a date for our annual membership meeting
▪   The “business plan” (estimates, etc)
▪   CFC logo

Respectfully submitted,
Mark Hunziker, Secretary
