Top lifter in the heavyweight class at The Vermont Bench Press Championships in South Burlington today was Steve Hensel of Fairfax who bench pressed 460 Pounds.  Congratulations Steve

I will keep my eyes open for a video on either Channel 3 or Channel 44 as both of the newscasts had it on tonight.

I took a quick glance through the Free Press, but saw nothing there and neither Channel 3 or Channel 44 have anything up.  Below is some of the script from the event:

Some big power was on display in South Burlington this afternoon.... 66 of the strongest men and women from around New England met at the All American Fitness club for the Vermont Open Bench Press championships .... Vermont was very well-represented by its strongmen as defending champion and reigning "Mr. Vermont" Steve Asselin broke his own state record in the 148-pound class by putting up 320 pounds on his press .... Defending teenaged champion and "Mr. Teen Vermont," Lloyd Nunn of Burlington keeps his crown after putting up an incredible 340 pounds with this lift .... And Fairfax big man Steve Hansel took home the award for the day's heaviest lift as he presses an amazing 460 pounds....

Steve Hensel was quoted as saying:

"It's pretty cool. It's a lot of hard work, that's for sure. A lot of time."

Not only did Steve lift the most for the competition yesterday, but his lift of 460 lbs (!!!!!) also shattered the previous state record of 425 lbs...

Congratulations Steve!
