Hello Faifax

« : July 27, 2009, 03:34:41 PM »

Hello, Fairfax! As some of you may know, my name is John Brett Michaud, long time listemer, first time caller to Mr. Raymond's forum. I have noticed all of these historical photos of our town located in different areas about the site..... Say I was wondering......... I know this a different town, even a different county, but would anybody have any pictures of the old Michaud and Sons market that was located in the Old North End of Burlington some 30 years ago? My father and Grandfather owned, and operated the store for over 20 years serving the people such as the Steeple Market did, and will once again soon. I would like to find an old picture of his store, and frame it for his 62 birthday in the coming months. If anybody does, I would be wiling to go as far as pay for a copy, or to be able to make some copies! Thank you Fairfax!! John Brett Michaud

John I sure wish I could help but I can't. I lived on North Union Street for 14 years and Michaud's market was the only place in Burlington to get the best butchered meat.  I can taste it now...oh the memories!

Why thank you!!! My father started his career as a butcher when he was 12 under my grandfathers supervision. He lasted 42 years until his back said no more. I remember growing up in Milton, all of our neighbors had thier deer cut in our garage, yum!

Small world!  I grew up on Park st., just a few blocks from Michaud's store. We went there all the time! My best friend & I used to walk there lots; her mom would cut coupons & even if they for items not purchased, they would give them 1 penny for each coupon; if we saved enough we could buy chocolate! Always courteous clerks & just like the old Gaynes store, a comfort smell that brings back the good memories. Sorry for no pictures; with all the photos my mom took that we've looked through since their deaths, but just a memory to be noted to some good people!  Happy Birthday Mr. Michaud!

Have you tried the Burlington City assessor's office?  Their files are full of photos and old information, who knows maybe you could find some old ones there?  I would go into the office though and not call as they won't check the file for you.

Brett, if you can give me the street & number, I can try to look into it further.  I have heard of the store and it may have been when I was working for Vermont Confectionery, the Candy Wholesaler on King Street in the 1950s as we sold candy to just about all the stores in the area.
