UNITED CHURCH OF FAIRFAX PREPARES TO FILL THE ARK

Information and photo is courtesy of Barbara Murphy

Sunday November 6 the congregation of the United Church of Fairfax grew by the presence of some unusual guests. Barbara and Paul Wiley brought their small menagerie to share the message of the Heifer International Projects mission. Princess Annalise the goat, 3 chickens, a rooster, a rabbit and 4 guinea pigs were escorted up the aisle of the Church by the children. After a brief presentation by Mr. and Mrs. Wiley the procession was reversed and the children took the animals back out of the Church to learn more about how they help enrich the lives of people all around the world.

Heifer International is a multi-denominational faith based organization that helps impoverished people in our country and the world better their lives through the wealth derived from livestock ownership. The members of the United Church of Fairfax will spend the next month filling small plastic arks with coins. On December 4 the arks will all be collected and when the money is counted the children will vote as to what animal(s) the Church will purchase for Heifer International to give a deserving community.

An alternative gift bazaar will also be held prior to the 10:45 service on the Sundays between Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you are still looking for the perfect gift for that loved one who truly needs nothing, think about purchasing a hive of bees, flock of chicks or even a goat in their name. It really is a gift that will keep on giving, in the true spirit of the holiday.
