Congressional officials say the government plans to suspend the popular "cash for clunkers" program amid concerns it could quickly use up the $1 billion in rebates for new car purchases.  For more, click on link below:

This is really unfortunate!  One of the dealers that I have been recycling the cars for said that he has not seen his showroom this busy in recent memory.  As of Wednesday, 4 work days into the program, they had sold 26 new cars!  He had 30 deals pending and now has to turn those customers away.

Just goes to show that if you give private business an incentive it will happen and happen fast.  The best part of this program is that it is not a "flash in the pan" aka one time expenditure.  These cars will have to come in for service etc for the life of the car, generate tax revenue, commission for the sales staff etc.

It's not dead yet....

From CNN news:
The House voted today to spend another $2 billion on the cash for clunkers program. "I'm pleased about the progress made in the House today about the cash for clunkers program," said President Obama immediately following the vote. The Senate is scheduled to vote on the program on Monday. The fate of the trade-in program was in doubt after concerns it may have burned through its $1 billion budget less than a week after it was launched.

You are right!  I was just informed by this large dealer that they will have sold just under 100 cars by this time next week.  Thank you CASH FOR CLUNKERS!  I wish my Clunker qualified, but it doesn't the fuel economy of my Subaru is just too good.

I got a car through the cash for clunkers program this saturday. The dealer said that the government was planning to add another 4 billion to the program. . . But you know how rumors go. Anyone else hear anything about this?

Hahaha... "Dollars for Dumps" program- where the federal government gives you an incentive to sell your run-down rental property so it can be turned into a community center... Oh, wouldn't that be nice!

Chris,

Everyone knows that Federal money is Free money.  It doesn't cost us anything, does it?  At least that's what I've been lead to believe...

It's to bad that we have put ourselves in this position. Where is this money coming from you ask? CHINA!! China is loaning us the money so we can buy their stuff and then not only are we sending them the profits from these put we are going to have to pay interest on the loan!!! Who pays for that? you guessed it our kids and then there kids!!! We are a nation of consumers, not a nation of productivity. We are head for a world of hurt and despair. Things are going to get a lot worse before it gets better thats for sure.

I'm not saying that I'm any better then the next guy because I'm not. My nick name at work is the Mr. Gadget. Anyone that knows me will tell you that. But it is time to look at what we do on a small level and if everyone looks for that label to say "Made in the USA" we will someday hopefully come out of this.
