I'm Off For A Second Opinion

Some 27 years ago, IBM presented me a beautiful Seth Thomas Wall Clock and it has hung over my TV all this time.  Recently we painted the living room and I had to take it down.  When I put it back up, could not get it to continue running again.  I figured it just needed cleaning.  This clock is very special to me. 

When I took it up to my Clock Repairman, he checked it out and told me that the works were worn and some were warped.  He told me that clocks since the 1960s do not last and that if I spent $350 - $400, it would only last about 15 years. 

I had decided not to get it fixed, but Maryann insisted that I go ahead and get it fixed, irregardless of whether it will last another 15 years only or not as she knows how much this means to me.  It is a constant reminder of the 35+ years I worked at IBM, plus the nice pension I have received from them for the last 17years and will continue to receive until both of us are no longer here.

Hopefully, I will be able to get it fixed and I again will be able to look at the clock, hearing it chime every 15 minutes.

Heneru, I had that problem once and the probleam turned out to be that it wasn't level on the wall.  You might try to see if that helps...free advice isn't always right but it's worth a shot.

Actually the only way to make one of the pendulum clocks run is to listen for a good tick-tock.  Once you have a good tick-tock, you are all set.  Unfortunately I am no longer able to hear the tick-tock.  The clock repairman I went to told me they have an amplifier that you can hook to the winding think that amplifies it for you.  Leveling a clock does no good unless the inside works are leveled with the case, so the only way is the tick-tock method.
