Got a nice note from Helga - She said they were working their way back home slowly.  She said when they had Cell Phone Coverage, they would check in on the website to see what the Fairfax Happenings are.  She said in BC & The Yukon, they had some pretty long stretches without coverage.  They are among several who have sent me e-mails or postcards to let me know they came to the site so they would know what is going on in Fairfax.

Always nice to hear some of our Fairfax transplants say they are headed home, meaning Fairfax.

Have a safe journey the rest of the way home "Ed & Helga."

Ed is a really tall retired military guy.  Never noticed a Vermont Accent.  Helga really nice short German Lady.  Been in the service and never able to have a home of their own until they retired and located in Fairfax where they built an enormous beautiful home.

Henry,

If this is the same Ed you gave me his e-mail too then it is him. I e-mailed him my cell phone # and he did call.
I have deleted it since, I think.

You would be amazed at the dialects people have that you pick up on if you are not raised in that certain area.

I agree that Ed does have a relatively distinct accent--Vermont? I don't know, perhaps a combination of the places he has lived and whatever he's picked up from Helga in the 30 years or so that they've been married (I question the validity of that Vermont accent heard in radio commercials, I have never heard a real person speak that way).

I have known Ed & Helga since they bought the land they now live on (The Colonel used to visit it periodically before retiring from the service...we were neighbors). A few years into retirement, I think Helga stopped referring to him as The Col. It took awhile, but Ed finally stopped treating everyone around him like military personnel--he had to give it up, because at backyard bonfires there was no respect for that BS anyway-poor Ed, surely a difficult transition from commanding many,  to being commander of none! ;-)  He is around the same age as my dad and I've always thought of/treated him like family...I don't take any of his crap!

Helga, Ed, Bella have a safe trip home--hope this one was as good as the last two have been. :)

If the world gives you melons, you might be dyslexic
