The photos below were taken in the early 1980s. I used to plant 4 dozen tomato plants, mainly jet stars as they were my favorite tomato. The photos are mainly of my tomato plants, but my garden took up most of my back yard. The photo near the house of me kneeling in front of the buttercup squash shows part of the crop I had. Always got an odd ball squash as seen in the group. I used to plant the Bush Buttercup that took less room. Got all my seeds from Vesey Seeds as they had more short seasoned crops. Usually got my tomato plants from Clausens in Colchester as well as the pepper plants.
At the time these photos were taken, only my mother was alive, so shared the harvest with people in the Senior Housing near BFA and a few other families in town that made good use of the food. One lady used to can all the tomatoes I would give her and many a time during the winter their meal consisted of tomato soup and crackers.
Although I got great satisfaction from doing this, there came a time as my hours got longer at work, I just couldn't handle it any longer, so now resort to purchasing my produce, although a number of people do drop produce off to me also. At present, I have just about all I can do to keep my lawn mowed and water a couple of hanging plants - By the way, that guy in the photo with hair, thats me - How times change.
