Fairfax Community Woods Trail

The Fairfax Community Woods Trail may just be the best-kept secret in town!  It is located in the school woods were the old cross country running trail was.  It can be reached  from the school parking in front of  the elementary school. Walk along the edge of the playing fields near the woods and look for the entrance:  it  is  a wood chipped trail past the wooden bridge that goes into the woods..  Come and walk it!

The trail is twelve feet wide and covered in wood chips.  It weaves through stands of hardwood and pine and hemlock, following the natural contours of the land. Birds and wildflowers and small animal abound. Three twelve feet wide bridges cross small creeks.

In 2008, over 850 volunteer hours went into completing the first 5/8 of a mile. Dave Stanley and Doug Stewart have been instrumental in the creation of this trail.

Another quarter mile comes on by the end of April. When the project is complete over 1.5 miles of beautiful woodland will provide walking and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing opportunities for our townspeople.

We need your support!

We are holding a firewood raffle to pay for bridge construction and chipper rental. $10.00 buys a chance for a $200.00 cord of hardwood cut, split, and delivered (locally). We need to sell 125 tickets to meet our expenses.

Come out and walk these trails!

See the work that has been done entirely by town volunteers!

Buy raffle tickets to help us continue this good work!!!!

Tickets are for sale in the high school office. See Carol Stanley.  They can also be obtained by contacting Fred Griffin at fred@nensa.net.

Help us help the town!!!
