More mischief in town

I don't know if anyone else had a problem, but this past Thursday night between 10pm and 4:30am, both of my vehicles were "broken" into (they were unlocked- does that count as "broken"?) in my driveway, about 1/2 mile north of Joyal Fuels.  It doesn't appear that anything was taken, but everything had been gone through- glovebox, backpack, gym bag (I'm sure my sneakers were a nice surprise!)... I'm sure they were only looking for cash, but the doors were left wide open so maybe I scared them away when I got up at 1:30.

Just thought I'd pass on more encouraging news while I sit here cleaning my Glock.

Very daring up in that neighborhood - A few years ago one of your neighbors had a huge gun cabinet stolen out of the house during the day.

These houses are like 50 feet from the road.  Always good to keep our eyes open when travelling the roads.  Most of us have cell phones and a call to 911 with some good observations certainly would do no harm.  I happened to be lucky enough to get the license plate of a burglar last year which was extremely helpful to The Vermont State Police.

Hard to believe we have to keep our car doors locked in our own driveway.

It seems a group of individuals runs the Vermont roads at night.
Car break-ins have been reported in groups, in various locations.

I just checked my e-mail and another one just came in:

State Police are investigating a theft from a motor vehicle which occurred at
approximately 04:00 hours on 08/29/09.  During that time, someone entered a
vehicle owned by Sherry MacDougall and stole cigarettes.  Anyone with
information is asked to call VSP or Crime Stoppers.

I had a friend who's rear window was shot out of their company vehicle while they were gone this weekend.  The neighbor went over and covered it with plastic and police was called.  Apparently some teens driving around shooting out car windows in Milton. He has video surveillance outside but not night vision cameras.  His wife gave him the OK to go get them. 

Trevor I have two guns near my bed.  And yes I grab one when something doesn't sound right outside. Not looking to hurt anyone, but protect myself.

Trevor so you where home at the time? there is really no where to park close by and walk your right out in the open there start looking around at the neighbors ,like oh henry said your neighbor lost a gun safe a while back

Jim Magnan also caught a man in his living room last year and Al Daniel's truck got stolen to.  There has been a lot of activity in that area of town over the last couple of years.  Best to make sure you keep the doors locked and the Glock cleaned Trevor.

It would not hurt to have a second set of ears and all dogs have great hearing regardless of the size.  Infact, most of those little dogs have big a bark and good ears.  Usually, neighbors are on your side and don't forget sometimes you have to look within your own home before looking outside the window.  Just a thought!

There was someone suspicious nosing around DJ & Kathy Leach's (Fletcher Rd) over the weekend. Looking in their door window, I was told. Apparently DJ was home, saw the guy and went to the door. He had some odd story about "thought there was something for sale in the yard." or something like that. DJ set him straight and the guy finally left, but his car was parked down the road  some, not in the driveway...a little odd.

Although I'm sure this is a fairly accurate rendition of what took place, I wasn't over the weekend and this information came to me via a third party, after the fact. I suggest anyone who knows DJ  ask him directly.

Someone did make a decent attempt to steal my snowmobile over a year ago, but apparently were scared away once they got it in the road, because that's where a state trooper found it as he was driving by at 2 am and knocked on the door.

What is it with these people/kids who seem to have missed the basic life-lesson that you don't take other people's stuff?! Isn't this taught by  parents from toddlerhood and is continued on in pre-school forward?

Is it a sense of entitlement, boredom? It's a mystery to me. Other kids can have the same circumstances and manage just fine without being destructive...?

The Leach's have dogs have dogs mummy! What's scary is that people are bold and don't care if you're home, they're going to come in anyway.

This is a perfect example of what needs to be reported.
Franklin County Sheriff's Department and Vermont State Police
are doing a great job recovering property and making arrests.
Even though this one may not have committed a crime,
suspicious people and cars need to be reported today !

They need to know this guy's desription, plate number, car description, time of incident, what was he wearing, write it down.
I repeat, write it down. Pay attention, things happen quickly.
Hat ? Shirt color ? Pants type ? Shoes ?
Maybe he was looking for something to buy, no harm done.
Maybe your neighbor's coin collection is missing.

For most renters having a dog is not an option. Landlords frown on that unfortunately. I had to give mine away for that very reason.

Trevor, I suggest you git rid of the Glock. They are no good. Sig Sauers are so much better. Just kidding. Glocks are fine weapons, I just prefer Sig Sauer. My wife has one too and loves it.

Unfortunately, there's been an underbelly of juvenile theivery thriving for a long time in vermont.  There's actually been 'Rings' that's right burlgary rings borken up where kids scope friends' homes and others raid them when they're away.  It's been going on in Hinesburg, Shelburne, Williston, Underhill, and Vergennes for at least a decade.  We're not talking kids just haphazardly poking around though some thieves are that dumb around here.  we're talking about kids who get trained how to look for things, when to look, where to canvas...... how to see if there's dogs or alrams without suspicion.... tons of stuff.  Not all were educated, but some of the successful were highly educated and successful.  Some of this is drug -related - but junkies aren't going to have the patience or tack to pull off  some of the bigger items needing more finess and caution.

Mr Santee is right - report what you see -and as much infor as possible - from car and person descriptions, to the direction they left in.  Were they chewing gum or did they talk funny?..... might help?

Chris Santee has provided the best advice that we should all heed:  be attentive to your surroundings and report anything out of the ordinary to either the State Police or the Sheriff's Department.  They can't do anything if they don't know about it.  A lot of little things often add up to a bigger picture.

Also, LOCK YOUR VEHICLES if they are in your driveway and lock your house, garage, etc. when you are not home.   Don't be an easy target.

P.S. I love my Sig Sauer too....
