A large natural gas pipe leak has shut down Colchester Avenue in Burlington.

The gas line break is located directly in front to Fletcher Allen Medical Center on Colchester Ave.

Police and fire officials are in the process of closing the area off Wednesday afternoon and were seen backing people away from the scene.

A loud noise could be heard near the leak.

Police said Colchester Avenue will be closed till further notice and are advising motorists to avoid the area.
