Action from the Fairfax Mens Fall Soccer game Sunday

NEWS AND NOTES

Well, farglesnot.
After I post that we got the local channels back off the satellite dish, we lost them again. Needless to say, I didn't cancel the technician. I just hope he gets here early Tuesday morning.

Bruce Richards, owner and promoter of Albany-Saratoga Speedway and Devil's Bowl Speedway, decided to try something. He scraped the dirt off the A-S track in Malta, NY, exposing the asphalt track underneath. They ran a couple of races on it this month, including this past weekend. It was announced Sunday that the dirt will not go back on the track next year, and that Devil's Bowl Speedway on Rt. 22A in West Haven, VT will be paved. I'm guessing they will continue to run dirt modifieds at the track, like Airborne does in Plattsburgh. This means WE(sprint cars) won't be racing either place anymore. Which is strange, because Richards was thinking of trying to get a World of Outlaws race at the Bowl. THAT ain't gonna happen now. Sprint cars don't run on asphalt. Not supposed to anyway. This will mean the gang at Thunder Road-ACT, Sportsman Tigers- may get a couple local tracks to race at. But we're out.

I was taking a walk around the school Sunday morning and came upon a Fall Mens Soccer game. Ah, the memories. Back in the 80's, I used to hang out with the local mens AND womens soccer teams that played during the summer. I used to play goalie during practices.
I remember one time, the mens team had a semi-final game here at school. I usually kept the scorebook during games. But the number of townspeople that lined the field watching the game would rival a high school game. They were playing on the baseball outfield where the JV play now, and the other sideline had people down the whole length of the sideline. Fairfax won that night. Fairfax would go great guns in Division II, win the championship, and get promoted to Division I the following summer. They would then finish last in DI, then get bumped back down to DII. Great times.
