In an effort to keep the citizens of Franklin and Grand Isle Counties informed of the activities of the Troopers assigned to the ST Albans Barracks, we provide this summary report for the week of 1-30-2006:

Total calls for service in Franklin and Grand Isle Counties – 97

911 hang ups investigated – 11

Accidents w/ injuries investigated – 1

Accidents w/ damage resulting – 6

Agency assists – 12

Suspicious person complaints investigated – 12

Unlawful Mischief complaints investigated – 5

Burglaries – 3

Assaults – 3

Alarm responses – 5

Throughout the week, we continued to investigate the rash of Burglaries that have been conducted in Grand Isle, Franklin and Chittenden Counties.  Since January 1st, 2006, the ST Albans Barracks alone has investigated 29 burglaries in our area.  As a result of a traffic contact conducted by Trooper Rolandini, many of these cases began to unfold.  Consent searches were conducted, search warrants were conducted, vehicles were seized as a part of this investigation and ultimately 4 suspects were cited for their involvement with these cases.  To date we have been able to tie these suspects into Burglaries that took place in Grand Isle, Chittenden and Franklin Counties.  In addition, we are continuing to look at the possibilities that these same suspects were involved in many other crimes in our area

At the conclusion of this initial investigation, a joint press conference was held to highlight our progress.  It was noted in this press conference that throughout this investigation, we received outstanding cooperation from the Grand Isle Sheriff’s Department and the Essex and Colchester Police Departments.  Without their assistance, we would not have been able to bring many of these cases to a positive conclusion.  In addition, the significant points brought out were the facts that many of these Burglaries were drug related and that in some cases, these suspects were in the possession of firearms at the time that they were committing these crimes.

Report from Governor’s Highway Safety – During the last “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose” enforcement campaign, Vermont’s law enforcement officers processed a total of 129 DUI suspects during that two week period.  Officers conducted 244 checkpoints, wrote 1,141 tickets and made over 41,000 contacts with Vermont’s motoring public.  As a result of the ST Albans Barracks participation with this effort, SGT Mike Aamodt (Traffic Safety Coordinator for the Barracks) recently was notified that the barracks is eligible to receive funding for additional motor vehicle enforcement equipment that will assist us in keeping our highways safer!  The results of the efforts mentioned above continue to highlight the continuing problems associated with Drinking and Driving.  Please make every effort to assist us in our efforts in keeping our highways safe for all those who travel by not drinking and driving!
