Waterville  - Genevieve Cornelia Mann, 94, passed away at Clark’s Residential Care Home in Hyde Park on Monday, November 16, 2009.  She was born in Waterville, VT on February 11, 1915, a twin daughter of the late Merritt and Cornelia (Stebbins) Mann.  She was a graduate of Cambridge High School class of 1932.

Genevieve continued her education at Johnson Normal School, Eastern Nazarene College and Deaconess School of Nursing in Boston, and began her nursing career as a public health nurse for the Town of Shelburne.  She eventually returned to school to complete an advanced degree in science, graduating from Simmons College in Boston in 1952.

Genevieve returned to the public health field and was a consultant and physical therapist with the Division of Children with Special Needs at the Vermont Department of Health.  She won considerable professional recognition and, more important to her, the affection and friendship of the many children throughout Vermont with whom she worked.

In retirement, she enjoyed having more time for gardening, photography, church, family, friends and providing transportation and other assistance for those in need.

She is survived by her brother, Dr. Roger Mann, and wife, Muriel, of Waterville; her sister-in-law, Katherine A. Mann, of Wollaston, Mass; several cousins and many nieces and nephews for whom she made many occasions, but especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, very special.  In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by two brothers, Edward S. Mann and Merritt H. Mann Jr., and two sisters, her twin, Gwendolyn E. Mann, and Marguerite M. Nielson, a sister-in-law, Cora H. Mann, and a brother-in-law, John B. Nielson.

Our family gives special thanks to Linda Clark and the devoted staff at Clark’s Residential Care Home for the excellent and loving care they provided Genevieve.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Waterville Church of the Nazarene.  An hour of visitation will be held prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m.  Interment will follow in the family lot in Mountain View Cemetery, Waterville.  Memorial contributions in Genevieve’s memory may be made to the Activities Department of Clark’s Residential Care Home, 213 Clark Drive, Hyde Park, VT  05655.

Arrangements are by John D. Workman, A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main St., Fairfax, VT  05454.  The family invites you to share your memories and online condolences by visiting Genevieve’s life tribute at www.awrichfuneralhomes.com.
