Due to multiple accidents on the northbound and southbound lane of I89 in the Bolton/Richmond area (between Exits 10 and 11) traffic has been slowed and long delays are anticipated.  We recommend travelers seek alternate routes until further notice.

The flow of traffic on Interstate 89 between Exits 10 and 11 is moving more freely, and alternate routes are no longer necessary.  Please continue to drive carefully.

LOCATION: I-89 South at MM 73 - Bolton
 
INJURIES:
FARNHAM, Christopher
Age: 19
Moretown, VT
Seat Belt - Yes
Neck and Back
 
HOSPITAL: Fletcher Allen               
WEATHER: Snowing 
 
ROAD COND: Snow and black-ice covered
 
SUMMARY OF CRASH: On 12-08-09 at approximately 0853 hours Vermont State Police - Williston dispatch received a report of a 14 vehicle collision on I-89 South near mile-marker 73 in Bolton.  Members of the Vermont State Police, DMV,
Richmond Rescue, Richmond Fire and the Bolton Fire Department responded to the scene. 
 
Investigation revealed eight (8) separate collisions, involving eighteen (18) vehicles, occurred within 1/10th of a mile at mile-marker 73.  One of the vehicles involved was a tractor-trailer unit.  One operator was transported to Fletcher Allen for neck
and back injuries. 
 
Although the collisions are still under investigation, speed and the slippery road conditions were contributing factors.  Two operators were issued traffic tickets for operating with a suspended license.   Further legal action is pending the conclusion of the individual investigations.
