MORE OLD FAIRFAX PHOTOS

The Trombly Block. A drug store, a hardware store, now an apartment building.

The Maple Street Covered Bridge, back in the day.

Rol Southard's Fairfax Garage. Located where Boutin's Store used to be next to where Steeple Market is now.

South Street, now part of Main Street. Taken before the 1927 Flood with the double covered bridge spanning the Lamoille River.

The famous 1927 Flood, taken after the bridge went out. The high water mark is actually a foot or so higher than in this picture.

Hey Mike,

Seeing the photo of the double covered bridge got me thinking.  Do you where the one at the Shelburne Museum is originally from?  Awsome Photos.

I had been told at one point the one at the museum was from Cmbridge where the wrong way bridge is now. Not sure if that is correct or not.

Is it too late to petition the state to build a covered bridge to replace the one on rte 104 in the village? :D

Possible, I guess. It would have to be HUGE for the trucks to get through. And we have had trouble enough with the Maple Steet bridge getting hammered with too big a trucks trying to get through. The openings would have to be 20 feet on each end. And walkways for pedestrians and bicycles to get through. Would make a great tourist attraction!
