Scattered Power Outages Across Area

Gusty winds are causing scattered outages across Vermont.

At around 5 p.m. Monday, CVPS was reporting a little over 1,300 customers without power.

Christine Rivers, spokeswoman for CVPS, says high winds are taking down trees and power lines. The bulk of the outages are currently in Pittsford, Killington, Underhill and Wells.

Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) is reporting that over 980 customers in the Cambridge and Berkshire area are without power.

Both utilities are currently working to restore power.

Power has been restored to most people in Burlington after a tree tore down a major power line.

Burlington Electric says it happened near the Queen City substation. About 100 people remain without power—the outage affected about 1,000 people.

We are so reliant on electricity that we can't perform even basic functions without it. It's kind of scary how vulnerable we REALLY are, if you think about it for a minute.
