Emile Paul "Mike" Verchereau, 85, of South Burlington died suddenly Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, in his home.
He was born in Elmore on Sept. 18, 1924, the son of Arthur Louis and Hortense (Senesac) Verchereau.
Emile graduated from Richmond High School, class of 1940, and attended Louisiana State University. On Oct. 7, 1950, he married Dorothy Anne Bouchard in Saint Anthony's Church in Burlington. He owned and operated E.P. Verchereau Trucking Inc. which supplied products to area farmers for over 52 years, retiring in 2008. He was a lifelong member of Saint Anthony's Parish and served as an usher for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Anne of South Burlington; six children, Karen V. Whitby and her husband, William R., of South Burlington, Amy V. Bell and her husband, Jason, of Fairfax, Jan M. Verchereau of South Burlington, Linda Verchereau-Becker of Montpelier, Anthony M. Verchereau of Milton and Gregory P. Verchereau and his wife, Ha Hai Tran, of South Burlington; ten grandchildren, Lydia F. Bell, James V. Bell, Derrick F. Whitby, Alyssa A. Whitby, Jazmine Jarvis, Dylan R. Verchereau, Jack C. Verchereau, Allie L. Verchereau, Bryce T. Verchereau and Chandra Becker; one brother, Wilfred Verchereau and his wife, Jackie, of Essex Center, Alice Collins of Essex Center, Lauretta Brosseau of Colchester, Lucille Woalbach and her husband, Robert, of South Burlington; two sisters-in-law, Carol Verchereau of Grand Isle and Virginia Verchereau of South Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

His family would like to thank the staff of Home Instead, especially Janet Loubendeiger for all her care, love and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. in Saint Anthony's Roman Catholic Church with Burial to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association - VT Chapter, c/o Dept. of Neurology, 1 South Prospect Street, Burlington, VT 05401.

Mike was a trucker who hauled just about any thing. It wasn't a tractor trailer, but a over sized blue flatbed with wood sides on the back. I first met him when he woulkd get sawdust from Spartan Industries when it was still down on Pine Street. When it moved to Fairfax, Mike came up to get sawdust here. He sure could fill his truck. I know he used to haul hay, and because he could speak French, did a lot of business out of Canada. He usually had one of his sons, either Tony or Greg with him. Good people. Every once in a while when I would be down in the bakery, I would ask Amy how her father was.
This morning I extended my sympathies. Mike Vechereau was a good man.

Amy, condolences from Mark & Judi Hunziker. It is so hard loosing a parent and it sounds like he was a very good man. My dad was born in Elmore in 1922 so perhaps they knew each other as children. Blessing to you and your family.
