The low here last night was 9.6 degrees below zero.  When I turned out the lights, it was like daylight outside, which gives you an indication right there that it wasn't too warm out.  I cranked my thermostat up a couple degrees.

Earlier in the evening around 6 p.m., got a call from my sister who said her water to the kitchen sink had frozen.  She usually leaves the cupboard doors open when it gets cold.  I grabbed Maryann's hair dryer and went up.  I felt the pipes and directed the heat on where they were the coldest.  All of a sudden the cold water started dripping, then came full stream.  Took a while to get the hot water pipe thawed out and was just about to take a break and when I started to get up saw a couple of drips so went back and held the heat to the pipe and within about 5 minutes, they were both unthawed.

Mary Kay came up with her electric heater also and suggested that Tee leave her cupboard doors open with the heater going.

I think most of us don't realize how fortunate we are that we have warm, well insulated houses.  We have much to be thankful for.  I am sure there were a lot of houses that had similar problems to my sister's last night.
