Did you know Air Freshener's hanging from your rear view mirror are illegal ?
I just confirmed this with Franklin County Sheriff's Department.

According to our lawmakers in Montpelier,
you can drive down the road with a dog on your lap,
reading the newspaper, while you text and
eat a Big Mac and drink a soda and smoke,
BUT, you can get pulled over and ticketed for an air-freshener.

Please send me to Montpelier this November !

And if you're talking on a hands-free cellphone that's attached to the windshield with a suction-cup holder, you're breaking the law too :)

Please don't send me to Montpelier.  I already have enough people mad at me :)

I am glad that air fresheners are illegal in Vermont.  Maybe the police will pull over more cars and by chance nab a drug dealer or two.

Here is a real concern...  Vermont Yankee is going to go away.  Power rates are going to go up.  I will bet the farm that IBM already knows the intersect point of profitability vs profit based on utility rates.  Their profit matrix goes beyond just utilities, health care cost, state and local taxes, workers compensation, raw materials cost, payroll, overhead and the list goes on.   IBM has control over many input cost contributing to overhead.  The management team can do little to influence Montpelier.

My bet is that IBM already know the date of closure for IBM Burlington based on input cost vs profitability.  Let us all hope that the closure of Yankee is not the straw that broke the camels back.  If it is then Burlington and Vermont could suffer consequences similar to Plattsburg, NY when the Plattsburg Air Base Closed.

Chris, it might be a good time to build a relationship with IBM brass.  If IBM leaves VT the current 150 million dollar budget deficit will be dwarfed by what is to come.

Well Said Dave.  Even little Old Fairfax reaped the benefits of IBM moving here to Essex Junction as many IBMers built houses here in the past 53 years that worked there and a number of those retirees are still living here.  Having said that, should they leave, it will also have a rippling effect on Fairfax.  IBM uses a tremendous amount of electricity, so that will definitely have an effect on their future here in the state.

Reposting this from before:

I would like to clarify something since this keeps coming up - despite the fact that that it has been covered in the papers.

The Purchase Power Agreement that Enexus (the leveraged spin-off that Entergy is trying to get approved) has put on the table is offering about a third of their current amount of power and 1.5 times the current price.

Also, at a shareholders meeting the CEO of Entergy was quoted as saying that Vermont Yankee's rates were too low and the company would need to increase rates to make money.

The bottom line is with or without (my preference) Vermont Yankee our electric rates will go up. Period.

The day before the vote in the VT Senate an IBM spokesperson was part of a group of corporate lobbyists who were touting this new power agreement as a great thing for VT. However, this is the same person who a year ago was threatening that IBM would leave the state if the price of power went up. Let's keep some perspective here.

Thanks.
