INGRID SCHAUTZER FORTUNA
FAIRFAX — Ingrid Schautzer Fortuna, age 66, of Fairfax passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at her home unexpectedly with her daughter Kimberly by her side. She was born on Feb. 18, 1940, daughter of the late Robert and Erna (Huber) Schautzer in Klagenfurt, Austria. She married T. Richard Fortuna in 1962 in Germany and moved shortly thereafter to the United States. Ingrid settled in Charlotte in 1976, where she owned a small family farm just as a hobby. Ingrid was best known for her culinary expertise and all guests were sure to receive samples and never leave her home hungry. Ingrid was very proud to have become an American citizen in 1985, the same year she moved to Fairfax and bought her home. She enjoyed and was very good at restoring and renovating her home which became a huge part of her life. She took great pride and received many comments on her decorating abilities. It was in her home that she lovingly cared for and worked with disabled persons. She always devoted her life to the less fortunate. The doors of her beloved home were always open to the numerous individuals in need of a home and Ingrid made sure that everyone was treated with dignity and respect. CNN was always on and her heart was filled with compassion for those in need wherever in the world they might have been. She also enjoyed doing daily crossword puzzles. Ingrid had also been a Cub Scout Den Mother and taught German and baking skills to middle school children, all of which reflected Ingrid's commitment to helping others. Ingrid will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; her son, Michael Fortuna, and his wife Susan and their children, Mandy and Thomas of Colchester; one sister, Brunhilde, two brothers, Robert and Wolfgang, all of Germany; her extended family members, James Boucher and Lawrence Baillargeon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by the father of her children, T. Richard Fortuna. There will be no public visiting hours. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 30, at 3 p.m. in the United Church of Fairfax, with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating.
