Authorities said a man driving a tractor was fatally struck by a freight train, and a person walking near the tracks was seriously injured outside St. Albans.

Gregory Crawford, 78, if Williston was crossing the tracks while driving a backhoe across the tracks when the train struck him near Route 7 in a farm field at about 11:30 a.m., according to Franklin County police. He sustained serious head and upper body injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Shain Parker, 28, also of Williston, was walking near the backhoe at the time of the crash and was struck by the backhoe as it was pushed by the train. Parker suffered head injuries and was taken to the hospital in St. Albans. He was later transported to Fletcher Allen in Burlington.

Hi Henry.

The news agencies got his name backwards. His name is Crawford W. Gregory. He was known as 'Moose' by those that knew him. A big man with a big heart. He will be missed.
