Ducky Race is June 5, 2010 in conjunction with the 3rd annual community Day. Ducky race is at 12pm and the proceeds benefit the parks and rec department.

Proceeds going to benefit the Parks & Rec Department means that these funds support programming in town, for example: Boot Camp, Pilates-Yoga Fusion, Zumba, Story Walk in the Park, etc. The Parks & Rec Board voted to provide some financial support to enhance the free summer concerts offered by the Community Library. We (I am on the board) coordinate the egg hunt for little ones at Easter time. And lots more. The more money we raise, the more programs we can offer. Donations supplement the funds we get from town taxes.

Come to one of our meetings to learn more or get involved. The board meets the first Thursday of the month, the next meeting being 7:00 on May 6th at the Town Office. As always, we welcome your input and questions.

This is what I know about the Ducky Race: It's on Saturday June 5 at 12 p.m. Where is the Ducky race? I did buy two tickets this year, but I don't know where I am going. I am not even sure what the race is. Do the ducks go into the Lamoille River or something?

More details please...

Ducks are launched from the bend in the Lamoille River by Fairfax Salvage & Repair on River Road.
They meander downstream to the Finish Line at the Fairfax Recreation Park.

After a good rain they move along quickly,
but after many days of sunshine, they move ever so slowly.

Last year, one duck was way ahead near the finish, but got caught in a tiny cove.

Take Care & God Bless,

Duckies are released into the Lamoille upriver off River Road. The finish line is down in the park so spectators can view the finish. There are folks (like me) who go down the river in kayaks to monitor the race and provide details of who's in the lead, and to sweep up the laggers. We want to make sure we don't lose any wayward duckies. The lead kayaker reports the standings via walkie talkie to someone at the finish line who works to keep the crowd riveted to the action. Don't forget there is money resting on the race. Whoever bought the winning duckies get cold hard CASH! Buy your duckies soon at a local business or on line.

There will be other activities all day long at the park...live music, games for the kids, horse shoe tournament run by the Masons, and more. Come on down, bring the kids, anticipate the fun....
