Hazel Clokey
(October 15, 1910 - May 2, 2010) MONTGOMERY – Hazel S. Clokey, age 99, widow of Joseph E. Clokey, passed away Sunday morning, May 2, 2010 at the Franklin County Rehab Facility in St. Albans.
She was born October 15, 1910 in Enosburgh the daughter of Henry & Mary (McGrail) Sylvester.
Hazel was a lifelong resident of Montgomery and a member of St. Isidores Catholic Church. She graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1928. On June 1, 1937 she married Joseph E. Clokey. He predeceased her on August 14, 1984.
Hazel worked as a seamstress at the sewing factories in Richford and Enosburg Falls. She was also a teacher’s assistant at the Montgomery Village School, a telephone operator, a clerk at the Montgomery Village Post Office and ran several business’s out of her home such as donut making. She also loved to do beautiful embroidery to give to family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Alberta Clokey of Fairfax, and Carol Clokey of Montgomery; her grandchildren and their spouses, Steve & Robin Clokey of Jericho and their children Rachel, Ethan & Kira, Jeff & Kelly Clokey of Fairfax and their children Justin, Tyler, Noah & Miles, Stacy & Willie Maynard of Bakersfield and their son Caleb, and Pam & Rick Brooks of Randallstown, MD and their children Keishya, Kalisha, Eric, Makenna & Katie; many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Joseph, Hazel was predeceased by her parents, Henry Sylvester in 1952 and Mary Sylvester in 1966; her sons, Roger Clokey in 2004, and Douglas Clokey in 2006; her grandson, Glenn Clokey in 1983; and her great granddaughter, Karissa Brooks in 1988.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Isidores Catholic Church in Montgomery Center with Rev. Daniel Jordan celebrating the Mass of Christian burial assisted by Deacon Jon Ramey. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
