A Stowe hair salon is donating its clippings to a non-profit group that's using it to help clean the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Shortly after the oil rig explosion off the Louisiana coast, Salon Salon began collecting hair and putting it in a bin. The organization, Matter of Trust, is weaving the hair into mats to absorb the oil.
Manager Michelle Sautter says the non-profit has a million pounds of hair from around the country. Sautter plans to send more next week.
"If we can make a difference and are given a very simple opportunity to do so, we'll do it," Sautter said.
