The Home Dem Group, an organization of Fairfax ladies, petitioned the State of Vermont to put in a light in the center of the village to slow cars down. Parsons' Store was located where Foothills Bakery is now, and there were gas pumps located in front of the store. There were a couple of accidents in the center of the village, and the group wanted to see precautions taken to prevent more accidents.
On May 21, 1966, a light was installed that blinks yellow both directions on Main Street, and blinks red to stop drivers when they are coming off Fletcher Road.

Mike,  Looking on the right, the Butler House was still there from the looks.  Chan Cooley had not torn it down yet.  Chan used the material in that house to build his house up at 207 Fletcher Road.  I remember when he did that, but don't know just when it was.

Henry, On the right is the Trombley Block where the old hardware store was. The old Butler place would have been on the hill on the right. Obviously the tree that is there is now gone.

I thought that Parson's was on the right? Did they move?
I am confused......as usual.

The white building with the gas pumps in front is Parsons Store. It looks like two buildings side by side. The entire downstairs was Parsons Store.
If you look at the top picture, look at the building on the rightside behind the tree. That's the Trombley Block, and you can see half the sign that says Fair...with Hard...underneath. That was Fairfax Hardware.
The place that Chan Cooley tore down is not there. That would have been on the hill next to the tree, and would have blocked the Fairfax Hardware sign.
