RICHARD ANDREW GERMAIN (DICK) & SHERRY EVELYN (RATTA) GERMAIN

WILLISTON - Dick Germain, 83, died on May 23, 2010, at his home in Williston, from congestive heart failure. Sherry Germain died on Nov. 9, 2008, also at home in Williston, from congestive heart failure. She was 76. Both died in the care and companion of family and friends. Dick and Sherry were native Vermonters. Dick was born in Fairfax, on Oct. 11, 1926. Sherry was born in Grand Isle, on Jan. 1, 1932. In 1946, at the age of 20, Dick enlisted in the US Navy where he served two years, part of that time on the Panama Canal. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1948. He returned home to Vermont and shortly thereafter, met Sherry. They made a handsome couple. Their love of dancing was surpassed only by their love for each other. Dick and Sherry were married on Nov. 18, 1950. Dick, a carpenter by trade, built the home where he and Sherry raised their three girls and a variety of family pets including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, sheep and rabbits. Family life was simple for Dick and Sherry and their girls. Neighborhood softball games, front yard picnics, playing cards with friends and the occasional jam session on the weekends. Dick had a gift for music, playing the guitar, banjo and harmonica. Sherry was the quintessential homemaker. Birthdays and holidays were her specialty, especially Christmas. Dick was an all-around handy man. Sherry never had to hire a plumber, electrician or mechanic. Dick did it all. If anything broke, he could fix it. Dick and Sherry were members of the Model A Ford Club. To all their friends, too many to list, thanks for the memories. Dick and Sherry are survived by their three daughters, Averil Thibault and her husband, Marcel of North Ferrisburgh, Susan Germain of Northridge, Calif., Jayne Germain of Starksboro; two grand- children, Jason Thibault and his wife, Melinda of North Ferrisburgh, and Sarah Kirschner of Winooski. Dick is survived by three sisters; Trudy Martell of Alburg, Catherine Thomas of Essex Jct., and Mary Kelley of White River Jct. Sherry is survived by her sister, Myrtle Allard of Colchester. A private graveside service was held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 in Williston. The family of Dick and Sherry would like to express their profound gratitude for the CAREgivers of Home Instead Senior Care, the VNA, and especially Aunt Trudy, for making it possible for them to spend their remaining time in the comfort of home.
