Friends and Neighbors
Welcome to the second annual subscription plan. Last year we made a decision to offer a subscription plan rather than just ask for money. Our feeling was that in years past, the communities have been very generous in their support of the squad. We felt the need to be able to offer something tangible back in return for your support. The subscription plan allows us to help you keep a handle on your health care costs. Many of you may ask: What is the subscription plan?
In simple terms the subscription plan is the primary fund raising event for the Rescue Squad. There are no other plans at this time for another organized community fund raising event. The money raised during this event helps support the services that we provide. As an added benefit to subscribers, if you use our services any portion of the ambulance bill you receive from us that is not covered by your insurance carrier will be forgiven. You will not be asked to pay that unpaid portion out of pocket. In some cases this unpaid portion can be $100.00 or more.
How much is the subscription plan and how often can I use it in a year?
The cost of a subscription plan this year is $45.00 for a household. All members of the household are covered by the subscription plan. You will be asked on the form to fill out the names of all the members of your household. The subscription plan may be used as many times in the year as needed at no additional cost. If we provide service to a subscription holder we will initially bill your insurance carrier. We will accept the payment that they make as payment in full and you will not be responsible for any difference.
How long is the subscription good for?
The subscription is good for the period of a year. The subscription year will be from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. It should be noted that our subscription is also honored by some other services as we also honor their subscription plans.
Can I subscribe later if I do not do so now?
You can join the subscription plan at any time of the year. We do suggest that you do so as early as possible. Many of our subscription holders from last year were very pleased that they joined after requiring our services several times after joining.
How do I subscribe?
Fill out the attached form and mail along with your check in the enclosed self addressed envelope. Please be sure to give all the requested information as we need it to make sure you are receiving all the benefit that you deserve.
What services does Fairfax Rescue provide?
Fairfax Rescue now provides primary ambulance service to the Towns of Fairfax, Fletcher and the majority of the population in Westford. We are currently about 25 members strong, with those numbers steadily growing. We provide Advance Life Support pre-hospital care and transportation, now utilizing 2 ambulances. The majority of our services are provided by volunteers, with a few paid per diem staff. We recently hired a full time paid administrator who provides needed coverage on week day, days as well as attending to the squad’s business needs. This person will assist us with such things as grant writing, recruitment, billing and any number of other business functions as needed. You will now be able to reach someone in our office Tuesday through Friday 8 AM to 6 PM.
This past year we have continued to see the trend of increases in the number of calls we respond to. While our “run year” does not end until June 30th, we anticipate that we will have over 400 runs for the year. This is due in part to the increased populations in our towns, but also due to our decision to keep our old ambulance as a backup. We have used the second truck on several occasions for additional calls while the first truck is out on a primary call or when a second ambulance is needed to handle extra patients on calls such as motor vehicle accidents with multiple injuries.
Fairfax Rescue also covers a number of community events and select sporting events. You will likely see our ambulance and crew standing by at, lacrosse games, football games or other school or community events in any of the 3 towns we serve. We firmly believe in providing “Community Service” at all levels.
If anyone has any questions regarding the subscription plan, billing, membership or any other rescue related business, you are encouraged to call us during regular business hours, Tuesday through Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM. You may also contact us by email at fxrsq@myfairpoint.net Also feel free to visit our website at home.myfairpoint.net/fairfaxrescuesquad /
In summary, we continue to move forward to try to meet the needs of the communities that we serve. All of our volunteers give freely of their time so that everyone in the towns of Fairfax, Fletcher and Westford can benefit from the best possible pre-hospital emergency care available. As always we are seeking more volunteers to assist in this cause. A recent legislative change may make it easier to accept people with previous medical experience in other disciplines such as army medics and nurses. As it would appear now, those people could become EMT’s without the need to take classes which cover knowledge they already have. If you have a bit of spare time and a lot of community spirit, give us a call. We can always use the extra help.
Respectfully
Daniel Vanslette EMT-I03 President Fairfax Rescue
