Roswell H. Evans
(January 11, 1920 - June 7, 2010)


Roswell H. Evans, Sr., 90, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully Monday morning, June 7, 2010, at Northwestern Medical Center. His loving family was at his side. He was born in East Highgate January 11, 1920, the son of the late Houghton and Maude (Rice) Evans. Roswell was a herdsman for Carlton Soule for several years. He later was a custodian for Bellows Free Academy and then The District Court House and States Attorney Office.

Roswell enjoyed working, gardening and Ice fishing. He was a communicant of Holy Angels Catholic Church.

Roswell’s first wife, Clara M. (Rock) Evans died May 23, 2000. He married Doris Tittemore in St. Albans on June 30, 2001. Doris survives him. In addition he is survived by six sons and a daughter and their spouses; Roswell H. Evans, Jr., of So. Carolina, Michael and Bonnie Evans of Swanton, Homer R. Evans of St. Albans Bay, David N. and Kathleen Evans of St. Albans, Thomas R. and Francine Evans Gardner, Maine, Gary R. and Jan Evans of East Hartford, CT, and Sarah J. Evans of St. Albans Bay. He also leaves a brother, Robert and his wife, Francis Evans of St. Armand, P.Q.

He leaves seven step children and their spouses; John and Celine Leggat, Anne and Daryl Bell, Mary and David Garriock, Sue and John Farnworth, Jeffrey and Betty Leggat, James Leggat, 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren and 16 step great-grandchildren.

He will be missed by his neighbors and friends, Newell Decker, Leo and Juliet Verret as well as the Robert King family of Fletcher.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and her husband, Judy M. Evans and Eriberto, a sister, Eleanor Evans, brothers-in-law, Chester and his wife, Leona Tittemore, Ernest Tittemore and Merril and Louise Tittemore.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 AM in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church with Father Maurice J. Roy, Pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in the Evans family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478.
