This Date in Fairfax History-June 20, 1928

On June 29, 1928, a celebration was held to open the new iron bridge over the Lamoille River. The iron bridge replaced the wooden double covered bridge that was destroyed on November 4, 1927 during the Great Flood. The iron bridge was the gateway into Fairfax Village from the south until it was replaced in 1986-87.

Except the truck that sideswiped the bridge and dumped a load of toilet paper all over the place.

This bridge was always a very important landmark for me growing up.  Everytime we drove up from Connecticut to see my grandparents, I knew we were almost there once we crossed that bridge.
