Hi All,

A few weeks ago I was up to see Allan Simmoneau and he was telling me he was tearing out the inside of the old Corrigan House located across the road from me at 460 Fletcher Road.  He told me in tearing off the wallpaper, he had found an old newspaper dated, May, 1897.  He wondered if The Fairfax Historical Society might be interested in it and who to contact.

I told him I was sure it would make an interesting topic to hang up on the wall and that I could see that it was brought up there.

Sure enough, the other day, the door bell rang and there was Al with a piece of the old wallpaper he had torn off the wall with the newspaper on the back.

Apparently in the old days, they made good use of everything.  I don't have my paperwork here, but think the Old Corrigan House was built in the 1850s and probably when they did some papering, for some reason or other in 1897 put up some newspaper along with the wallpaper.  I tried to get a closeup of the sheep powered cream separator ad, but it isn't very clear along with the piece of newspaper Allan brought down so you can see below.  Will bring it down to the Historical Society so anyone wanting a closer look can check it out there:

Below is a photo of the piece of the newspaper Allan was able to get off the wall:

And here, although not very clear is a photo of the sheep powered cream separator:
