I'd thought of seeing it because I really enjoyed the book but a lot of people have the same opinion of the movie that both of you do. I shouldn't be surprised that the movie doesn't do the book justice but I always hope for good adaptations.

Yes I have a buddy at work that has read the book he said the book was really good, the movie not so much.

I liked it actually...a little predictable but overall not bad....didnt read the book though so I dont have a comparison but movies in general dont do books any justice.

I had high hopes for Shutter Island because 2 of Dennis Lehane's other books (Mystic River and Gone, Baby, Gone) made excellent movies. In keeping with his style, they were dark and miserable but very engaging. I'm always a little distracted by the changes and omissions when a book becomes a movie/show but I was swept into the movie very quickly in both cases. I thought Shutter Island as a movie would mostly be appealing because of the setting because I thought the book was predictable too but I thought the same with Twilight and that movie was painfully dull.... I don't want to get burned again.
