Water Flushing

Can someone explain what this means?  Is our water is okay to drink this week?  Thanks!

Towns do this flushing for a couple different reasons.  One is to operate valves that should be periodically operated, and the other is to actually clean out the inside of the water main.  When they open up a blow-off or hydrant and get a good rush of water thru the lines it actually cleans out any kinda sediment or build-up that occastionally occurs in waterlines.  The water is still fine to drink just sometimes the first time you use your water after the main that your service comes off is flushed you can sometimes get a couple seconds of discolored water.  But its nothing to worry about.

We used to flush hydrants all the time to get rid of sediment, rocks, stones, ancient Indian Native American arrow heads, eagle bones, etc.

But the correlation between sediment and the P word does make sense.........
