Today Is The First Day Of "Meteorological Fall"

This is the first day of "Meteorological Fall" (the full months of September, October and November).  And yet it will feel like the middle of summer with another hot & humid day.  The record high temperature for Sept. 1 in Burlington is 89 degrees, and we have a good shot at breaking that record today.

I have never heard of "Meteorological Fall," any idea how this is different from "Regular Fall?"

I found this bit of info from USATODAY.com:

You often hear that the summer solstice is the "official" beginning of summer. But, it's really the astronomical beginning. Meteorologists consider summer to be the months of June, July and August, which in terms of weather conditions is more realistic. Meteorological fall is September, October and November; winter is December, January and February, and spring is March, April and May.
