WESTFORD - Two young Fairfax men died early Sunday morning in a single car accident here on Route 128.

Jason Daignault, 21, and Sean Reynolds, 19, were killed at about 1:30 a.m., said Vermont State Police. They died when a 2003 Acura RSX, operated by Daignault, struck a tree.

Police said the car was traveling north when the operator lost control and the vehicle entered a sideways skid across the southbound lane. The vehicle left the road and the passenger side of the vehicle struck a tree.

Daignault and Reynolds were pronounced dead at the scene.

The impact caused substantial damage to the vehicle. Police said the weather was cloudy and the road was slightly wet due to an earlier rain.

Police said an investigation is continuing into the cause of the accident. Speed was likely a factor, but there was no indication of alcohol, said State Police Trooper Peter Garivaltis.

Police, fire, and rescue personnel from Essex, and Westford Fire Dept. personnel responded to the scene.

Channel 3 reported that the 2 young men were drag racing - Mother wanted photos of the car shown, but was too grief stricken to go on camera

Good evening. I'm Sera Congi. And I'm Marselis Parsons. There is a tragic twist to the car crash that killed two young Fairfax men Easter Sunday. State police now say that the car involved was racing another car at the time... traveling at extreme speed when the driver lost control and hit a tree. 21-year-old Jason Daignault and 19-year-old Sean Reynolds were killed instantly. Bridget Barry Caswell spoke with the police and the parents of the young men today. She joins us now live from the newsroom with more. Bridget... Sera, most people who've heard of this accident have heard that Jason Daignault and Sean Reynolds were friends, but they probably are not aware that the two were stepbrothers as well. Gloria Daignault - who is Jason's stepmother and Sean's mother - was too grief stricken to go on camera today, but she wanted us to show the pictures of the car, which are quite graphic, in the hopes that they may stop other young Vermonters from practicing the same reckless behavior.
