Current News & Events / Re: Vermont Electric Power Outage
« on: July 24, 2012, 11:39:42 AM »
We lost power around 6:45 last night on Fairfax Road and it came back on around 7:30 this morning.  One of the worst nights sleep ever.  Had to keep closing the bedroom windows due to the recurring storms last night.  My kids slept, but I could tell they were uncomfortable because they were sweating constantly.

Phones are out and I am not sure when they are going to come back on.  I was going to call Fairpoint from my cell, but my signal isn't strong enough.  Anyone elses phone out?

The people who live across the road from me have ducks and they have been coming over and hanging out in the pond in my front yard now for the past 2 years.  I really don't care....  Just wondering when the day will come when someone doesn't see them cross the road and splat......  Ugly looking things too!

General Discussion / Looking for Snow tires
« on: October 28, 2011, 04:49:51 AM »
I am currently looking for (4) Studded Snowtires for my wifes vehicle.  The size is 215/70/R15.

Before I buy new, I figured I would post to see if anyone has any they want to sell or know of someone who has some for sale.  I've been searching Craigslist, but a lot of tires I have found have been either sold or not close by.

Thanks

General Discussion / Damaged Mailbox
« on: October 25, 2011, 01:34:37 PM »
I was waiting for the bus this morning with my daughter and went over to check the mail and noticed that the side of my mailbox was dented.  Looks like someone was throwing good sized rocks from a moving vehicle.

I just got back from Fletcher General and noticed 2 other damaged mailboxes...

Curious if anyone has had their mailbox vandalized recently.

General Discussion / 3 People in Fletcher area looking for work
« on: August 30, 2011, 12:14:03 PM »
I was outside earlier mowing my lawn and this old rusty white Ford card pulled into my driveway with 3 people in the car (woman driving, 1 man in passenger seat and one man in the back seat.  One of the men got out of the car and asked me if he could take the scrap metal from my neighbors yard.  I told him that I didn't own the place and then he asked me if I had any work around the house or yard for them to do.  I told them that I was all set and then they took off.

Kind of sketchy if you ask me.  Anyone else see these people?

General Discussion / Roaming Cow in Fletcher
« on: June 17, 2011, 12:06:07 PM »
Last night (Thursday June 16th), around 7:00 PM, I looked out my back window and saw a Calf walk by the window.

I ran outside with my phone and got this picture.  Not sure who it belongs to, but hopefully it made it home safely.

General Discussion / Re: Fairpoint DSL speed struggles
« on: April 04, 2011, 12:37:39 PM »
I see there is a new switch box installed on Fletcher road, across the road from Swamp Road...  I have been experiencing slow speeds at time as well and sometimes it goes out.  From what I have heard from talking to customer service, speeds should increase when they are done with their work...  Keeping my fingers crossed.

General Discussion / Re: Red Hot Dogs Don't Appeal To Me
« on: March 28, 2011, 07:38:31 AM »
I remember as a kid, going to Maine every summer with my family and it seemed like every supermarket / store only sold red hot dogs.  Even though I have never eaten one, they really do not appeal to me.

Just like back in 2002 (I think it was), they use to make Blue, Purple, Green Ketchup.  Even though it tasted the same, I just could not bring myself to use this stuff because it wasn't red.

General Discussion / Re: Saving Money On Gas
« on: March 17, 2011, 12:15:21 AM »
avoid rapid starts and stops.

With the way the roads are around here, especially 128 from Westford to Essex, I must be wasting my gas away.  It's pretty much impossible to stay at a steady speed...

You drive 50 feet and have to almost stop to avoid bottoming out on those pot holes / frost heaves.

Political Issues/Comments / Re: Full Day Kindergarten
« on: February 20, 2011, 12:08:50 AM »
I can't speak for BFA Fairfax, but I know Fletcher Elementary is going to full day Kindergarten in the fall.  My oldest daughter who will be 5 in June, currently attends there 3 day pre-school morning program.

I know I can't speak for other parents or children, but she absolutely loves it and would go 7 days a week if it was available.  When either my wife or myself picks her up, she always says "Do I have school tomorrow?".  I don't know how she is going to be this week with no school!

I know things can change with a child, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that she will enjoy school and learning through out her education career.

General Discussion / Furnace Cleaning
« on: February 19, 2011, 01:06:09 AM »
My wife and I have been in our new house for a little over a year now and it's time for our furnace to be cleaned.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend someone in the area that does furnace cleaning...

Name and Phone Number would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Will

General Discussion / Re: Fairpoint on Fletcher / Fairfax Road
« on: February 17, 2011, 02:44:00 PM »
I have been checking the Fairpoint website daily to see if my phone number qualifies for DSL and I was shocked to see that today, it does.

I am not very impressed with the current speeds.

Down Speed - Up to 768 kbps

Up Speed - Up to 128 kbps

I am hoping as they continue doing work in the area, that these speeds will increase.

General Discussion / Re: Have You Watched Watson Play Jeopardy

I haven't seen this used, but as a current IBMer, I found out a few months ago, that the Watson chip is one of the chips I have been working with.  Kind of cool!
